Fair is that you go to this barn place and people show, pigs, sheep, lambs, steers, dairy cows, chickens, dogs, horses, and bunnies, and take care of your animals.
The first day you just get you animal used to the barn, and just hang out.
Then the second day you show your animal, and that's how you get ribbons. first you show you animal on showmanship which means the judges judge you on how good you show your animal, they take the top two and keep them for the next round, me and my cousin placed first in our heat, so did Landon , but in the next round I placed 3rd because Bubba freaked out. Second you show your animal on how it looks, market. My steer placed 4th in that. That day after we had washed my steer we went and tied him up on the side of the barn so we could brush and dry to make him look nice for show. Well I started to brush him when he started to smash me against the wall so I pushed on his side so he didn't, and he KICKED ME! He full on kicked me in the hip my leg went numb and I started crying mainly because I was in shock, my dad came running from the other end of the alley and saw that I was hurt. He said he heard a big smack from the other side of the barn! (that's pretty far). In a few hours I checked my hip in the bathroom and I had a purple bruise the size of an apple! It went away in about two or three weeks. So when I went to show I was in pain. Oh ya and guess what else happened right as I walked in the ring for show Bubba stepped on my foot. I had to pull my foot out and keep smiling, I almost started crying. Then in the next round Bubba freaked out because the steer behind me bumped him and I had to let go otherwise he would have dragged me across the pen
The third day we all just hung out again the 4-H barn has a little stand that sells breakfast burritos , hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, drinks, candy, and ice cream, because I am there for 15 hours every day because you have to be there from when you feed them in the morning to when you feed them at night, and we feed our steers at 7:00 in the morning, and 6:00 at night. And then you stay a little while after night feeding time because of events and cleaning up. Something that always kept everyone busy was cleaning their animals pen because if your pen was dirty they would charge you 50$!!!! So we had to always be cleaning the pen. Another thing, some animals drink city water, some drink well water, and some drink canal water, there was a city water pump at the barn, and there was a canal across the street.if you had been drinking canal water for a long time and it instantly started drinking city water then is would get bad diariah, and loose a bunch of weight. Which would make you steer look very skinny! So you don't want to do that before fair!
The fourth day was the sale! What you do is get your Animal looking great and make sure it's fat and well behaved. When I showed my animals I sold it for 2,300!
